An Ahwatukee school campus
By mid-October, Ahwatukee schools have moved past opening-day jitters and settled into rhythm. Kyrene schools (serving K–8 students across the village) and Tempe Union high schools (Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe) are now deep into their fall calendars, with athletic seasons underway, clubs organizing, and classroom routines solid.
This is a good time for parents to check in on their student's progress and get a sense of how the year is shaping up. Most schools have wrapped their opening events and are now focused on academics, sports, and extracurriculars. If your student hasn't found their people in a club or team yet, fall is when those groups are still welcoming newcomers.
Both districts maintain detailed event calendars on their websites, so checking there regularly helps you stay ahead of field-trip forms, fundraisers, and seasonal activities. October is also when winter sports begin to take shape, so if your student is interested in basketball, volleyball, or other indoor programs, this is the moment to get on the radar.
